Oh, the embarrassment.
They're probably having a pokemon card tournament at ALcon. It's been seven years since I last played pokemon cards, and I think I've lost my touch. I'm learning how to play again, but it's quite difficult. I don't remember there being so many rules!
On the plus side, I still have the deck I made back in the day where I could wipe the floor with everyone. God bless you psychic pokemon - you're only weak against yourselves. Now, let's hope I get paired with people with fighting pokemon. Psychic pokemon take -30 damage from fighting pokemon, as well as many fighting pokemon taking double damage from psychics.
Hey look! My deck is online now too! I can't get the online game room to work though. *sniffles* That was the only reason I uploaded my deck.
God, how embarrassing. I'm 20 and doing a blog post about pokemon. The last time I had anything to do with pokemon was when I was 13 or 14.
I dug out the PC pokemon card game I had, and it made me laugh reading the back of the case. First off, it took some tinkering to get it to work, since it's designed for Windows 95 or 98. Next, check out these system specs. I bet these were quite good computers at the time.
A monitor capable of displaying at 800x600!
A CD-ROM drive of 4x speed!
It doesn't say what the hard drive specs are, but I bet it's into the MEGABYTES!
I'd like to clear something up. By definition, I don't like yaoi. I despise it. It's actually shonen-ai I like, but the word yaoi has commonly become the word used to desribe manga containing homosexual relationships of any type. Officially, yaoi is manga/anime about sexually explicit gay relationships, whereas shonen-ai (the one I like) is about love between boys. I don't mind a little bit of hanky-panky, I just don't want to be shown it in every detail. I'd rather imagine it. I like it when they kiss, hug, lick each other etc, but anything involving nakedness below the waist I'd rather not see.

I like reading yaoi. All the boys in it are sexy. But it's sad to think that if they really existed they wouldn't like you because they're gay. BUT, if they were straight, would they stop being as sexy?
In my opinion, yes. Look at it this way. Mikuni from Eerie Queerie is quite a nasty person. When he's doing stuff to the other boys, all the girls are thinking about is how sexy he looks when he's doing that. However, if he was doing the same things to a woman, everyone would say he was sick and twisted.

I stayed up long past midnight last night reading the last volume of Death Note. Now I have to go to work and I'm all tired, but it was so worth it. What a fantastic series!
Death Note spoilers below. Highlight to read.
I always knew that Light was going to die in the end. Sophie spoiled that one for me before I even started reading Death Note, but it was still quite scary when it happened. To begin with, I couldn't see how it was going to happen when Light met with Near. Near had this brilliant plan that would be sure to reveal that Light was Kira, but Light was one step ahead of that. Of course, Near was one step ahead of Light being one step ahead. You see, in order to get rid of the evidence, Light gave his Death Note to Teru who was going to do the killings instead. So, Near figures out about Teru, and that he was going to turn up at their secret meeting, learn of Near's real name with his shinigami eyes and kill him. So, to stop that, Near gets hold of Teru's Death Note in secret and replaces the page that would correspond to that day with ordinary writing paper. Light figures out that Near would do that, so had Teru carry around with him a fake Death Note, so Near only replaced the pages of a fake Death Note and Light told him to bring the real one to the secret meeting and kill Near. So, when Near brags about how Teru's only written everybody's name in a fake notebook, Light laughs just at the end of the 40 seconds after their names have been written down and they're theoretically all about to die of a heart attack, Light admits in front of everyone that he was Kira and that he has won. Then, nobody dies. Light and Teru can't figure out why. Near tells us that he had figured out about Light figuring out about Near figuring out about Light figuring out about Near, and realised that the supposed Death Note they replaced the pages in was going to be a fake, and knew that the real Death Note was elsewhere. So, Near goes to Teru's house, finds the real Death Note and replaces that one with a fake. So the 'real' Death Note Teru brought with him to kill Near and the SPK is only a fake, and was never going to work.
If that wasn't complicated enough, there's a load more stuff to this that I haven't written. This is when Light figures out he's screwed, and needs to do something fast. But, what everyone else doesn't know is that he has a small piece of the Death Note hidden inside his watch. He turns his back and gets the piece out as quickly as he can to write Near's name down so he will die. Matsuda realises what is happening and shoots Light's hand, to stop him from writing. Light's now in pain, but fights on, continuing to write Near's name with his blood. Light gets shot again. Light's now bleeding to death, and utterly defeated. He looks around. Mikami can't write Near's name in the notebook because he's handcuffed, Misa is back at the hotel and Takada is dead. He then turns to his only hope, Ryuk. Ryuk says he'll do it, and gets his own Death Note out, but after writing, reveals that it's not Near's name he's written, but Light's, and he now has forty seconds before he's going to die of a heart attack. Light screams and shouts alot then, and then he dies.
Then there's a bit like a year later, and Near has become the new L, and there's a picture of Near lying on the floor with his toys eating chocolate, and that made me want to start crying. The significance of eating chocolate will mean nothing to you unless you've read it, but it made me want to cry because it was kinda in the memory of Mello, who died helping to capture Kira.
I was gutted when Mello died. When Mello kidnapped Takada, she had a secret piece of the Death Note hidden in her bra, and the only thing she could do was the write Mello's name in the Death Note. Made me want to punch Takada. Mello was one of my favourite characters!
Okay, rant over. I doubt any of you understood any of that, but I needed a Death Note rant, and in Sophie's absense, my blog was the first available target.
Bad news - I now have nothing to read.
Good news - I can now watch the two Death Note movies without spoiling the ending for myself :)

I haven't been online in a while. So much stuff has been happening this last week.
I really don't know why I came here. I have nothing worth writing.
I've found someone at ALcon willing to do a skit with me, but neither of us have any ideas. Anyone got anything for a good Android 18/Vegeta skit? Nah, me neither.
I'm gonna spend this afternoon finishing off my costumes in time for ALcon. 18 and Fujin are sorted, but Dagger still needs a little work.
The week after next is gonna rock so much. Manga night in Torquay on the Wednesday, then the Thursday night me and Sophie are off on the train to Leicester to ALcon and we won't be coming back until Monday night!
Oh yeah, I found a nice frilly blouse in the charity shop the other day and it's perfect for my lolita dress. Well, a lolita dress. I'm actually going to have to change my dress a little bit to make it work, but I think the dress is going to be better overall because of it.
Oh yeah, I've been doing some artwork for the manga night again yesterday. I'm doing a Death Note related picture. Basically, drawing all the characters chibi sat on and around a giant apple. I'm still debating whether or not a big death note in the background would ruin it or not, because there's already quite alot of black in the picture as it is. On the other hand, it's probably not recognisable at the moment to anyone who isn't familiar with Death Note, so it might be a good idea after all. Although Death Note is a hugely popular manga, it's not like Naruto and stuff like that where you'll still recognise the characters if you've never read/watched it.
Okay, I've gotta go now.

Death Note is honestly the best manga I have ever read. I'd highly recommend it to everyone.
I love how cute this is. Aww, cute little L.
Near is my new favourite Death Note character now though. He's so cute, his clothes are all too big for him, he's so smart he makes Artemis Fowl look like an idiot.
I just wanna hug him!
I like his socks!
Yes, I am completely obsessed with Death Note at the moment.
Well, with me, every summer usually gets associated with a book - the one I'm reading that takes me all summer to read. 2005 was Dragon Rider, 2006 was Artemis Fowl The Lost Colony, and now it seems 2007 is Death Note.

I'd like to think this will be me when I'm 82.
She pulls that costume off so well!
Kinda puts things into perspective when I worry I'm a few years too old to cosplay some of my characters. Also puts the whole gender thing into perspective too.

In the manga, L doesn't really do anything for me. Sure, he's cool, but Light is by far my favourite.
In the movie, it's the other way around.
Look how sexy L is! It almost makes me want the good guys to win!
I've seen clips of the movie, and the guy who plays L has him spot on. All the little mannerisms, the way he sits, the way he talks, the way he's always got his thumb on his lips. Wow.
To be honest, the manga was beginning to get a little boring. Without giving spoilers to anyone else, Light stopped doing stuff. But now he's back, he's evil again and super smecksy!
I really have to stop falling in love with fictional people.
Well, I'm taking a step in the right direction here. I'm falling in love with an actor who plays a fictional person.
I challenge you to find me a picture from the manga of L when he's not either on the phone or eating.
Yes, this is some yaoi fanart, but it does have a point. It's actually a point I was wondering about a while ago. If L decides to handcuff himself to Light in order to never let him out of his sight, then that must mean they sleep together. Okay, with the length of the chain, it is possible they're both in separate beds, but they are in the same room.
I'm now on the waiting list for MinamiCon. Yes, there's a waiting list, even though it isn't until next March. There are normally alot of people who don't pay though, so they get wiped off and the waiting list clears. That's what happened to me at Amecon. Too bad that I'd already paid to go to ALcon and couldn't afford it.
Anyway, I've got to get ALcon out of the way before I start worrying about MinamiCon.
I really can't wait until ALcon. Only three weeks now.
The registration for the masquerade is up now, so I have to decide which costume to enter. I'm thinking Android 18, because there's another cosplayer who might do a skit with me, but since he's doing a Dragonball Z character, my Final Fantasy costume isn't going to be much use there. So I'll wear my Dragonball Z costume.

I finally finished my entry. I really struggled with some of the actors. Anyway, here was the list of people I thought should play the characters in the event that somebody gets their ass in gear and actually gets around to making the movie.
Some of the actors are spot on to what I think the characters look like, others are just as near as I could get. And of course, I couldn't resist putting John Barrowman in there either. I think he could actually make a pretty good Foaly.
Artemis Fowl II
Rollo Weeks – he’s a lot older than he looks, but if anyone saw him in The Thief Lord, you know he’d have the voice spot on.
Artemis Fowl I
Drew Barrymore – I’ve always thought she has a kind of elfin look about her.
Mulch Diggums (Voice Over)
Nathaniel Parker (because he absolutely has it nailed in the audiobooks, nobody else can beat him)
People's Choice:Any TWO characters of YOUR choice and the actors you want to play them.
Ardal O’Hanlon – he’s short, he’s funny and he’s Irish!
In reality, I'd actually like lesser known actors to play alot of the parts, but obviously I can't put people on this list I don't know.

His name isn't really Jack White, it's Ryan Murphy, and I'm a big fan of his. Especially when he puts on that voice he does. The one he's doing in this movie, actually. I'm an even bigger fan of Neil Cicierega though, the other guy in the video. Everything he does is just genius. He's a musical and cinematic genius.
This is actually a really old video I saw some time last year. Why I've come back to it today, I have no idea.
It all makes me laugh, but I think the funniest bit would have to be when he says 'I've talked to alot of interviewers in my time...'
I'm entering a competition, and basically what I have to do is cast the Artemis Fowl movie. I've got a huge list of characters, but I'm down to the last three and have no idea who to cast them with. I've got Juliet, Trouble and Cudgeon left. Plus I have to do two other characters who weren't on the list of my own choice. I really don't know who to put them as. I've only got one more day to do it too.

Now, people who know me well enough will know I like yaoi, but that's a little misleading. I'm more of a shonen-ai person. I don't mind a little bit of explicity, but nothing major.
So, Sophie goes shopping yesterday and buys three extremely hardcore yaoi (hardcore enough to warrant them an 18+ certificate), and I've seen inside them. I saw one panel and it sickens me. I will take that image to my grave. Now I've been completely put off gay love stories. I was reading Eerie Queerie this morning, and it just did nothing for me. Stuff like Eerie Queerie makes you more straight when you read it. Reading stuff like Love Mode makes me want to turn lesbian.
Now, I don't mind men doing that to each other. It happens in Eerie Queerie all the time. I just don't want to be SHOWN in amazing detail who's got what where. I like to have a little something left to the imagination.
I hope this is just a temporary phase. I like(d) shonen-ai too much to lose it. I know this though - in the future I won't venture near anything that has a certificate of anything higher than 16+

Wow, check this out. It's gonna be the best convention ever!
ALcon is now less than a month away. I'm so excited!

Every now and then, a new manga or anime comes along, containing none of the elements that I look for in a manga, and somehow manages to amaze me. Death Note is one such manga. I'm in the middle of reading it, and I can't put it down! It's amazing! I'm completely hooked on it. I got the first two volumes, and just ordered the other ten last night, so they'll be coming soon.
There's a film of it too, live action and all, which I'm dying to see, but I'm gonna wait until I've finished reading the manga so that I can complain about all the stuff they left out of it. But from what I've seen of the film, it's awesome.
What is it with me? I tend to read manga that have hardly any female characters. As a cosplayer, that doesn't make my life any easier.
They sell those Death Note notebooks on eBay, and I'd love one, but there's a problem. The only thing I ever write in notebooks is my books. I know it's not the actual death note book, but still. I wouldn't feel comfortable writing anybody's name in it, even a fictional person, for fear they'd die of a heart attack in the next 40 seconds!

I realised today why I like the manga I like.
Where I work, we have an arcade, and one of the machines is this thing with an air cannon which shoots balls, then there's this clown and you have to shoot down his teeth with the balls. So, I'm sat there at work today in this arcade for eight hours, and amongst other things I can hear people playing on this game. When you hit him, he says things. Sometimes he says 'Ow!', but the most common one is 'Yowie!'
THAT'S YAOI! No wonder I'm into that kind of stuff. That's subliminal messaging.

You have a mortal boy, a demon and and army of angels. Lucifer has built a castle on Earth and is keeping God and the archangels prisoner there. The castle, as well as the rest of Earth is currently teeming with demons. You need to get God and the archangels out, while at the same time forcing Lucifer and the demons to leave Earth and (possibly accidentally) destroying the castle.
No, I actually need ideas on this. I'm writing my book and have gotten my characters into a hole so deep I can't get them back out.

They say you know that your lolita dress is on the right track when it makes you want to bring out the stuffed toys and hold a tea party with them. I certainly do!

It turns out the manga evening I was meant to be going to tonight has been cancelled. Aparently the woman who was running it is sick. Curses!
It's now on the 5th September, days before me and Sophie are due to go to ALcon. It's seriously going to be the best week of the year. Hell, best week of the decade. CENTURY.
This has been a total waste of the day. I spent ages finishing off mine and Sophie's cosplay costumes, and then spent three hours colouring in our entry for the art competition (I'll post it up some time. I'm too lazy to do it now).
Anyway, despite that. Some good still came out of it. This photo made my day.
I have even more photos of Sophie's face in classic poses like that. She doesn't even know she's doing it half the time.
